Come celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Singer/Songwriter John Stewart’s seminal album “The Phoenix Concerts” featuring The John Stewart Band.
John Stewart was a singer/songwriter who spent a lifetime writing and recording songs that chronicle the unique people and culture that is America. Known for his contributions to the American folk music movement of the 1960s while a member of the Kingston Trio from 1961 to 1967, he had a #1 hit with “Daydream Believer” as recorded by The Monkees and Anne Murray. He had top forty hits in the 70s and 80s with “Gold”, “Midnight Wind”, “Lost Her in the Sun”, and “Runaway Train”, and has written songs for Rosanne Cash, Joan Baez, Nancy Griffith, Albert Lee, and many others. John was very popular in Phoenix due to airplay by the legendary radio DJ Bill Compton, and he decided to record a concert at Symphony Hall over two nights. The result was the seminal double LP, The Phoenix Concerts.
After John passed in 2008, his band of 25 years regroups every year to celebrate his vast catalog of music. This concert will celebrate the 50th anniversary of that magical recording and include other songs from his repertoire.
